About us

SQLCompass started in 2020 but to find out more about us read on. But it’s been much longer in development. Steve has been programming in SQL environments for over twenty years and knew that there was a need for a programme that could be used easily and at low cost to allow developers like him to access database information without the hassle of existing products.

He told his friend, Mal about his idea. Mal didn’t have a clue what he was talking about, but he did know he could help Steve get the project to market.

Steve Pratt, SQLCompass Programmer

Steve Pratt – Programmer

Steve started programming on a BBC Micro Model B at the age of 14. He didn’t want to work for a living but figured he would make most money in the least amount of time as a programmer.

Still incredibly lazy, Steve has managed to use the power of code to make his job as easy as possible. He has worked on a raft of projects with numerous clients including pharmaceutical, FINTEC, Local Authorities and hospitality booking platforms, to name but a few.

He has two daughters, lives in Cornwall, UK and loves surfing.

Mal MacKenzie – Designer

Mal first started drawing, very badly, at the age of 4 and hasn’t progressed that far. Thats why he went into graphic design and pixel wrangling after he realised in his early twenties that the life of the tortured artist was a bit beyond him.

Barely able to find the right end of a pencil, Mal has been able to make a go of organising shapes and words into layouts that a lot of people seem to like. He has worked for the past twenty or so years in sectors including Music, Charities, Environmental Reporting, Construction, retail and fitness.

Mal is married, has one daughter and a very noisy West Highland terrier.
